To be created following the Knife Angel’s stay in the city, this sculpture has been specifically designed to be a permanent visual reminder of the city’s intolerance to violent and aggressive behaviour. In partnership with the West Midlands Police and the Wolverhampton Council, it is hoped that the knives recovered during the Knife Angel’s 28-days of intensive anti-violence education within the city will be used to create a legacy monument illustrating Wolverhampton’s stance against all forms of violence – not just knife crime.
Preliminary discussions have surrounded Wolverhampton’s iconic image of the wolf, as this is the famous image that is used throughout the city and, of course, through their football club. The project would use all the surrendered and recovered blades, as well as other weapons, obtained through the Angel’s stay in the city. Once created, the wolf sculpture would thereafter remain in the city permanently following the Angel’s departure. To date, possible sites or locations discussed surround Queen Square, the Art Gallery and possibly the Molineux Football Stadium.
