In today’s ever changing, and increasingly online world, truth is under constant erosion. Our political leaders increasingly make outlandish, hollow statements, contributing to a growing distrust from the public. We are witnessing first hand, a troubling decline in honesty, through our phone and TV screens.
Donald Trump is a stand out symbol of this phenomenon. Known for his frequent and often inaccurate statements, he has become a modern-day Pinocchio — a character famed for his dishonest tendencies. This comparison is the inspiration behind our latest sculpture, designed to spark the conversation that we think is long overdue.
Trump himself coined the popular term “fake news,” yet many argue he has been one of its most prolific contributors. This irony highlights the blurring of truth we see continuously through politics.
In such times, we desperately need leaders who value honesty and openness with the public. Leadership comes with a responsibility, to speak truthfully, to act with integrity, and to restore public faith in what is said from the podium.
