We want to shine a spotlight on the general decline in religion in the United Kingdom and will therefore be introducing a new Faith Zone within the sculpture park.
We want the Faith Zone to symbolise that there is just one human race and even though we may follow various religions, we are all one and should care for and look after one another.
This is the first sculpture of many to be introduced into our new Faith Zone, which will celebrate a range of Gods.
Our Lord Ganesha sculpture also follows our ethos of always trying to create sculptures and art from recycled and abandoned materials. Lord Ganesha, along with the majority of other sculptures here, are crafted from disregarded parts that were destined for landfill, and that is the secondary message behind the sculpture. We have a moral obligation to look after the environment that has given so much to us.
However, the 2021 census shows there was an increase in the number of people who described themselves as Muslim and Hindu.
Our chairman, Clive Knowles, said: “Lord Ganesha is the beginning of us recognising all faiths of the world, and we know that each religion is equally important.
“The reasoning behind creating the sculpture is that we are concerned the world is becoming more and more divided. This sculpture highlights our concerns over our separations in faith and race and what that does to individuals.
