Inspired by the international efforts of Greta Thunberg and the UK organisation, Extinction Rebellion, this sculpture was conceived from the idea that there needs to be a more shocking visual reminder over how humankind is negatively impacting our world. It was hoped that the sculpture would travel around the UK, highlighting climate change and, more precisely, the climate emergency that our planet faces every day. We reached out to Extinction Rebellion, both to their London HQ and their local county groups, but our offers of support were unembraced. The sculpture was offered at no cost to the group through our eagerness to support their cause and help to tackle the international issues underpinned by their organisation.

We have openly said that, whilst their current policy of direct action is effective, we would advocate a more educational approach, either to run alongside their existing policy or to run separately. We offered our opinions over the concern that the public may become unsupportive if the direct action policy continued to scale up, bringing about more and more disruption. Please be assured that we admire their passion and commitment however, we do feel that education is something that isn’t presently being resourced sufficiently. Despite this, our help is still on offer to the group and we do hope to be able to help their cause in the future.
