Water is the lifeblood of the world. Without water, every living creature on the planet simply would not survive. Although certain parts of the world are blessed with an abundance of rainfall, others have little to no rainfall, causing those who live there to travel miles for water which is not guaranteed to be clean. With water being such a limited resource and the effects of climate change reducing the amount of water reaching certain areas of the planet, it is now critically important that we look to reduce the amount of water that is wasted every day.

With this in mind, we have created a project aimed at schools around the country which is designed to reverse the wastage of water and educate children about the importance of this “liquid gold”.

We will supply an old IPC water tank, which would have otherwise ended up at the landfill, with a view to collecting rainfall from a school roof. The water that is stored in this container can then be used conservatively for a variety of functions around the school, such as watering plants and vegetable gardens, general cleaning or even for adding to powder paint in an art class.

Not only does this project involve recycling rainwater, but it also serves to recycle the plastic container itself. As the IPC tank will be old and past its best visually, it can be used as an art project. The whole tank can be painted into a striking piece of art, or due to the metal framework around the tank, it can provide the opportunity for up to 80 pupils to decorate their own section.

It is hoped that not only will this project help to educate children on the importance of water on the planet, but that they will take this education home with them to share with their families and make them aware of how they can be more economical with water – such as using less water when washing the car, spending less time in the shower, or even creating their own rainfall collecting system for their home!

As part of this project, we have also extended our hand to WaterAid, a registered charity that is doing amazing work in bringing clean drinking water to many people across the world, in the hope that they will be able to support the project.
