Further Force Backing for Knife Campaign

West Mercia Police

Our knife crime project has gained further high profile police support and input.

Detective Chief Inspector Ed Foster of West Midlands Police visited the British Ironwork Centre to provide the Campaign team with advice and direction ahead of their first planned visit to Birmingham where they will meet with young gang members to persuade them to relinquish their weapons.

DCI Foster was delighted to learn of the campaign’s aims and objectives and gave it his complete support, feeling that it was a fantastic, community-led initiative which was both creative and inspiring.

Clive Knowles, Chairman of the Centre, said “We are extremely grateful to DCI Foster for taking the time to visit us and to provide us with specialist insight into the factors that we must take into consideration when visiting these communities.  He has been totally supportive and impressed that the project will be fully funded by the Centre without any grants or external funding.”

“DCI Foster and his team will be providing us with further information and contacts to enable us to connect with community leaders including those from Somali, Afghan, Hindu and Sikh groups to consult with them prior to our visit.   As a result of the visit, we’ve acquired a huge amount of information and suggestions for issuing communications via local colleges, community and support groups to ensure that communities are fully informed prior to our campaign visit.”
