The Belgian Blue is a breed of cattle known for their extremely muscular physiques. They possess a naturally occurring genetic mutation (the myostatin gene) that influences the production of a protein that inhibits muscle growth.

This natural mutation has been preyed upon and manipulated by humans to produce cows with an abnormal amount of muscle: the bigger the cow, the more meat can be extracted from its carcass, after all.

Our greediness has caused some real trouble for this docile, gentle breed.

Although they appear large, their skeletons remain relatively small and fragile. Their narrow pelvises mean that many calves are born through caesarean, causing immense stress for the mothers. Calves often have enlarged tongues, making them difficult to feed and nurse, sometimes leading to premature death. The Belgian Blue also suffers from joint, bone, and cardio-respiratory ailments.

Help us to raise awareness for the Belgian Blue and other breeds of cattle that have fallen prey to our twisted schemes.

Stop selective breeding!

We don’t need the amount of meat we’re consuming.
