Transport Rally A `Roaring Success`

Saturday July 16th saw over 500 vintage and classic vehicles arrive at the Ironworks for its second annual Transport Rally. Almost a year in the making, we hoped this year would be even bigger and even better than the last, and it didn't dissappoint

Thousands of visitors came from near and far to see the display of vehicles which included Landover’s, Jaguars, Morris Minors, campervans, motorbikes and many more. Not to mention the Bentleys, Rolls Royce and other cars with over a ½ million pound price tag!

Mayor Paul Milner officially opened the proceedings and took part in presenting awards including the best in show. Other Judges included The Royal British legion president, Mr Ted Larkin, Mr Nigel Woodward of the Wynnstay, Harry Richardson Rotarian and former Shropshire Council lead Keith Barrow.

Attractions this year included the return of the famous ‘lsquo;Spoon Gorilla’ made from over 40,000 spoons from school children across the county. He returned home for some annual TLC and just in time for the event, greeting vehicles taking part in the 2pm cavalcade.

It was an honour for us to this year have the support of The Royal British Legion whose standard bearers headed the cavalcade precession along to the sound of Porthywaen Silver Marching Band, really giving the cavalcade a sense of occasion and ceremony.

The day also saw the official unveiling of ‘Rolling Thunder’, our newest sculpture.

Artist, Luke Kite roared across the site riding the sculpture. We doubt you’ve ever seen anything like it. It’s an Impressive steel stallion, riding through the air on the back of a Motorbike.

The Wynnstay Hotel offered vintage and classic car fans an incredible ‘foods of the world’ feast with their own marquee on site.

It was a fantastic day, the weather held off and everyone had a thoroughly enjoyable time. The support from local business’s such as The Wynnstay has been paramount in us stepping up from last year’s event. There’s been an incredible turnout and we want to thank each and every exhibitor for taking part, we wouldn’t have a show without them.

We have received an astonishing amount of feedback from the exhibitors and visitors alike, just some of the messages:

“The event was lovely, the setting was fabulous and very interesting with lots to see and do, and to top it off we had a great welcome/entry pack with vouchers and a lovely key ring as a souvenir - apart from the better-than-forecast weather what more could one ask for!”

And,

“A big thank you again to all your staff and their hard work in keeping everything running smoothly and giving everyone a good day, thank you!”

We are already receiving requests for application forms for next year’s event which promises to be even more exciting.

More to be announced soon.
