Preston Police donate over 900 knives to national anti-knife crime campaign

Lancashire Police Constabulary has provided a huge boost to the national anti-knife crime campaign organised by a Shropshire company. The British Ironwork Centre was delighted to receive the donation of some 900 knives collected during the Lancashire Force’s recent knife amnesty.

Since the amnesty began at the end of August, an incredible collection of weapons has been amassed from across Lancashire including swords, machetes and commando knives.

The Centre, which is coordinating the project and uniting the efforts of families affected by knife crime, community groups and police forces throughout the country, will use the collected knives to create a Guardian Angel sculpture which will act as a national memorial to those whose lives have so tragically been lost.

It is also designing, creating and providing bespoke knife collection banks for the areas of greatest need throughout the UK and will be providing them to the Lancashire Constabulary in the support of their ongoing efforts to reduce the number of knives on the streets of their county.

Clive Knowles, Chairman of the British Ironwork Centre, said: “We are delighted to have received such a significant contribution towards the creation of our national memorial – this means so much to all of the families who have so bravely offered their support to our campaign.”

“We are honoured to have been approached by Lancashire Police and to look forward to working in partnership with them and their local communities in the ongoing fight against knife crime.”
