Remembrance Trees at the Ironworks & Sculpture Park

We would like to formerly offer the public the opportunity to plant a tree to remember a loved one here in the grounds, as a lasting, enduring tribute. We have been touched by the fondness people have for the Sculpture Park and wanted to offer something in return for the Community that supports us so intensely. Please contact us, or click below, to find out more.

St. Mary's Hospice, Birmingham

£1 Million National Target – National Hospice & NHS Support Programme

Beginning in 2016 as a way to support our local hospice, Severn Hospice in Shropshire, our National Hospice Support Programme was designed to help hospices all across the country to raise additional funding for their individual causes, and we help a large number of hospices create their personal campaigns each year. Over the years, we have created a large number of different metal flower designs in a huge array of bright colours and tones.

Countess of Cheshire Hospital

National NHS Hospital Rainbow Programme

Conceptualised during the height of the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic, our National NHS Hospital Support Programme was created as a way to provide hospitals all across the UK with additional support. With the rainbow now seen as the symbol of the NHS, we wanted to create something that encapsulated this whilst creating maximum public impact – so the NHS Rainbow Sculpture was born. These giant rainbow sculptures have been specifically designed to not only thank our national hospitals for all of their hard work but to also help them to raise crucial funding for their cause.

Very Nice Production Company

The Very Nice Production Company

The Very Nice Production Company is a musical theatre group in Shropshire who raise money for local charities.

The group was founded by Tracy Knowles in 2008 and started with just 13 members, today we have over 35 and gain new members every year.

How To Apply

Wind Chime Challenge

A fantastic project that would be perfect for any musical lead, or head of music or art department, we challenge schools to not only create their own unique wind chime – but extra points will be awarded to schools who use the windchime to create their own musical arrangement.

This challenge encourage schools to learn about sound, crafting and the environmental issues we face around waste, and this project is ideal for getting the whole community involved.

We would supply a starter pack containing a selection of brass tubes, from polished brass to bright chrome plated, in lengths varying from 6 to 12 inches. These will all be drilled ready for twine to be added, and we will also provide a 1m length of electrical wire for you to continue the wind chime on.

We would recommend involving parents, local businesses, and the whole community in sourcing waste material for your wind chime. This can be bamboo, steel, plastic, or iron – wherever your imagination takes you!

The winning school will win a VIP school trip to visit the British Ironwork Centre.

Deadline is the end of the school year 2022 – so get your thinking caps on!

Starter packs can be collected from the British Ironwork Centre, and please submit your entries in photo and video format to info@britishironworkcentre.co.uk.

Good luck, and we cannot wait to see what you can create!

Schools Environmental Wind Chime Competition

Is your school nurturing the next Beethoven or Michelangelo? Do you have a passion for caring for our environment and creating innovative ways to minimise waste? Then our newest school competition is for you!

Our Schools Environmental Wind Chime Competition comprises of the British Ironwork Centre facilitating schools in learning how to use waste materials to create a 1m long wind chime.

Here at the Ironworks, we are pretty serious about doing our bit to help protect the beautiful planet that we live in – whether that’s through reducing waste, cutting out plastic or creating art to promote the protection of our environment. We love to get the community involved in everything that we do, and our environmental efforts are certainly no exception. As proved on a global scale, we believe that the next generation are at the forefront of ecological protection which is why getting schools involved in our environmental projects is so important to us.

Flipper the Dolphin

Every year, 8 million metric tons of plastic ends up in our ocean. Not only does this plastic debris harm and kill fish, marine mammals and seabirds, it also pollutes the human food chain. Whilst recycling and beach clean-up initiatives are important, the most effective changes come through education. ‘Flipper’ the dolphin not only encourages recycling and the reduction of plastic consumption, but also acts as a visual protest against the plastic industry. The sculpture is designed to raise awareness, to encourage children to look into alternatives to plastics, and to educate young people about the harm that plastics cause to marine life and how it eventually affects us all.

‘Flipper’ can now be seen here at the Centre, ready to be filled with your plastic bottles. We are encouraging all of our visiting schools and young people to collect and bring in their empty plastic bottles to help fill the sculpture. Once a significant number of plastic bottles have been collected, we will use them to create something innovative and useful for the community. Any and all ideas are welcome!

Our Artisans

In The Little Village

Our visitors thoroughly enjoy seeing and interacting with artists at work within their studios here, which is why we are now dedicating a number of studio spaces to pop-up artisans. Artisans are invited to utilise one of these unique spaces to launch their artistic business or accelerate their creative journeys.

We want to help celebrate crafts and support creative endeavours in order to give you that step to move forward in your venture

Flipper the Dolphin – School Environmental Project

Following the success of the ‘Bottle Top Recycling Project’ and the HUGE number of schools who stepped forward to join in on it, we created and developed a new project for all of our visiting schools to participate in. Meet ‘Flipper’ the dolphin – a life-size, interactive metal dolphin sculpture designed to be filled with recycled plastic bottles by visiting schools and young people throughout the community.

Oswestry Revitalisation Project

Here at the British Ironwork Centre, we take pride in our location and want to help the local area and county as much as we can. This is why we jumped at the chance to help our local town, Oswestry, devise a revitalisation project to boost the town.

The aim was to create stunning designs for the town, with a focus on uniting the local community and to promote pride in the town, as well as drawing in tourists to witness the beauty of Oswestry.
