Enviro Policy

As a caring, progressive organisation, the British Ironworks Centre recognises and is committed to meeting its responsibilities towards its local and global environment. The Centre aims:-

a)  to continually improve its environmental performance as an integral and fundamental part of its business strategy and

b) to be recognised as a local leader in minimising the impact of its activities upon the environment and in promoting sustainability.

As one of the Centre’s core values, the key points of the its environmental care strategy are as follows:-

To comply wholly with, or exceed, the requirements of current environmental legislation and codes of practice applicable to the Centre;

To minimise waste and use of natural resources through regular evaluation of its operations to ensure maximum efficiency;

To minimise any emissions via the careful selection, use and maintenance of its vehicle fleet and sources of power equipment;

To actively promote and maximise recycling opportunities, both internally and externally amongst visitors, customers and suppliers;

To source and promote, as far as possible product ranges to minimise the environmental impact of production and distribution.

To maintain its premises carefully and in sympathy with its surroundings.

To minimise any air, water, noise or light pollution from its premises and reduce any impact from its operations upon the environment and local community.

To reduce risks from environmental, health or safety hazards to provide a safe, comfortable and pleasant working environment for its employees, visitors and customers.

To work in collaboration with interested parties, for example the Wildlife Trust, Meres and Mosses partnership and RSPB, in the active promotion of conservation and biodiversity within the Centre’s estate, and in carbon offsetting projects.

To continually monitor and to strive for continuous improvement of its environmental performance.

The aims and objectives of the policy are embedded with the Centre’s culture; its team members have been involved in the creation of and are committed to aligning their activities with the Centre’s environmental policy and goals.  As a “living” document, the policy will be regularly reviewed, updated and improved in consultation with the team, the Centre’s customers, visitors, suppliers and other stakeholders.

Our staff also partake in a car-share initiative in an additional effort to improve our carbon footprint and help save the environment.
